Hazel Grace is a beautiful dachshund girl. She fits the description of dachshund 100%. She is super sweet and gentle. She barks when she gets excited or when her family leaves. She is very determined as she explores the fenced in yard as she searches for the local wildlife. Sometimes Hazel is so focused, her foster dad needs to go out and carry her in.
Hazel came from a situation where they used potty pads in the house. She had a few accidents off the pad when she first came into foster, but since then has learned to go outside to do all of her business so there has been no accidents after the first week. When her foster dad goes to work she is put in the laundry room with a baby gate and her open kennel and does well in there, and still uses a potty pad successfully because she is not able to make it through an 8 hour workday in a kennel.
Hazel Grace does great on a walk, and is very inquisitive about everything going on. She usually only barks at passing dogs if the other resident dogs start barking too. She generally is a pretty quiet dog in the house except for some barking when her foster family leaves.
Hazel doesn't require too much exercise, and will love to sit and get attention from anyone on the couch. She loves to also burrow under blankets on the couch and in bed.
Hazel will chase after local wildlife, so extra care is needed to make sure the yard is fenced in with no small openings, and leashed properly on walks. Extra care should be given to protect her back from injury as dachshunds are prone to back injuries. Hazel is in a home with three other dogs and has done fantastic since meeting them with no aggression, as she is super friendly to all the dogs and humans she has met.

Breed and age are often determined on appearance, our own knowledge, veterinarian advice, and/or information from the sending shelters or previous owners. Most of our adoptable dogs were previously stray dogs with little history, we can’t be 100% sure of a dog’s breed mix, and unless there is a specific date of birth listed, we can’t be 100% sure of a dog’s age. Additionally, our assessments of a dog's interactions with other dogs, cats, or children are based on OUR experiences. Your experience may differ.
