Dahlia is the most intelligent dog that I have ever had the privilege to know. She works hard to understand everything that is said to her. She knows the following commands: sit, down, kennel, sit-stay, shake, touch, gentle, leave it, come, and stop and go (when on leash) . She is an active dog that enjoys playing ball in a safely enclosed space. She would be an excellent frisbee dog and shows signs of being a good agility dog. Indoors, she has good manners and is independent enough to invent her own games. One game she plays is “empty the toy box” one toy at a time. She also enjoys intelligent toys, but she figures them out very quickly.

She is crate and potty trained.

One of the most special things about Dahlia is her ability to bond with her family. She never forgets people she loves, even if you’ve been separated for a long period of time. She was excellent with my grandchildren and other family members. She’s a true “momma.”

Along with all the positive traits, she brings a few quirks. She needs a 4 ft or higher fence with plenty of space to discharge energy, more work with leash training, and slow introduction to other dogs. After a slow intro, she could work well with a male dog or a very submissive female. She wants to be the second in command next to her human pack leader. She has prey drive to small wildlife such as squirrels, bunnies, and mice. It excites her and she pulls to get to them. She will need about 15 minutes of patrol time at night to make sure all the bunnies and other vermin are out of the yard so they won't invade during the night before she will come inside and go to bed. She loves to run around the yard, but if she isn't running around the yard, she is lying either outside in the sunshine or taking a nap in the sunshine on the couch.

She currently lives with an older female Doberman (they sort of tolerate each other), her 1 year old son, and a 3 month old puppy who she loves to play with and is very gentle with her.

A little history:
She arrived in rescue with her 9 beautiful puppies that she weaned until they were big enough to go off on their own. She was the best Momma who loved playing with her pups. While they were finding their forever homes Dahlia was showcasing her strength and resilience by bouncing back from an FHO surgery and then a spaying surgery. She recovered beautifully!

Adoption Fee: $395

**Note on breed and age determination:

Breed and age are often determined on appearance, our own knowledge, veterinarian advice, and/or information from the sending shelters or previous owners.  Most of our adoptable dogs were previously stray dogs with little history, we can’t be 100% sure of a dog’s breed mix, and unless there is a specific date of birth listed, we can’t be 100% sure of a dog’s age. Additionally, our assessments of a dog's interactions with other dogs, cats, or children are based on OUR experiences. Your experience may differ.
