River is a sweet snuggle bug who loves to be with her humans. She lives for pets and belly rubs! She seems to run warm so is often seen napping on her back, completely relaxed. River has really come out of her shell these last few weeks and is starting to show signs of enjoying outdoor activities. She loves long walks and hikes - she’d make a great camping/hiking buddy. She has a strong prey drive, however, so watch out for small critters crossing her path - she will get excited and want to pursue them. Indoors, she’s still learning how to play with toys. She’s very curious when we play with our dog and will catch a few little toys when we throw them to her, but so far she is mostly a passive bystander during playtime. We have, however, seen her chucking a few toys around in private on our home cam so she’s definitely interested! Sometimes we need a little privacy to build our confidence. :)
She is SO smart and eager to please. Also, being food motivated, she’s a dream to train. River has already picked up a few commands and we’re confident she’d excel in obedience training of all kinds (she’s quite acrobatic so would probably love something like agility training too). She’s very in-tune with her environment and people and always has a watchful, intelligent look on her face…unless she’s getting belly rubs and then she just has a content, dreamy expression.
River is potty trained and on a regular 4-5 hour potty break schedule. She got accustomed to our dog’s schedule almost immediately so knows when to expect her next break and is excited when it’s time to go out. She sleeps through the night no problem and hasn’t had a single accident.
We are working on crate training with River, she doesn’t love it, but she has started to go into open crates for alone time which is a great sign! When we crate her before leaving the house, she will whine but has settled down after we leave (we check in via the home cam). She does tend to disrupt items that are in the crate with her, however, so we’re not sure how she would do for longer time periods. For bedtime, she prefers the couch and rarely gets up. So far, she’s done just fine not being in her crate while alone. River tends to lick quite a lot, though we are working on that as well. It seems to be a defense mechanism of sorts, if she’s unsure of what we’re doing to her (like putting her harness on) or as a way to request more pets.
River is such a sweet girl, an expert cuddler, and would love nothing more than to be your velcro doggy companion!

Breed and age are often determined on appearance, our own knowledge, veterinarian advice, and/or information from the sending shelters or previous owners. Most of our adoptable dogs were previously stray dogs with little history, we can’t be 100% sure of a dog’s breed mix, and unless there is a specific date of birth listed, we can’t be 100% sure of a dog’s age. Additionally, our assessments of a dog's interactions with other dogs, cats, or children are based on OUR experiences. Your experience may differ.
