I am a female 12 lb Havanese Puppy Mill survivor. I recently came to Minnesota in December of 2021. I am learning there is more to life besides being a Momma in a cage. I’m learning how to play with toys little by little, eat out of my bowl, and climb one step at a time. The resident dog has taught me all of these things! That is why it is essential I have another confident dog within the home to teach me the ropes and reassure me everything will be ok. I love playing with the resident dog, who is a small female chihuahua. Leash walking is a new thing for me as well. I’m not the greatest at it yet therefore a secure fence would be best for me. I have never gotten in trouble, and do not have a mean bone in my body. Considering the conditions I came from, I’m doing pretty good but so much more to learn.
My forever home should have an additional small dog living in the home to assist in helping me become the confident girl I was meant to be! I’m sure I will like all dogs with time but at the moment big dogs make me nervous.
My foster Mom says I am a sweet little girl who is very smart. And I know how to melt her heart, by just looking up at her, and give a little wag with my tail! Since I am a work in progress, it is best there are no small children within the home as I’ve never really been around them and their energy makes me nervous. If I’m nervous I will run to my safe place. Just so you know, I am afraid of many things such as loud noises, new humans, the mailman to name a few. Each day I am learning about these noises and how they will not hurt me. I’m looking for a forever human to condition me to everyday noises and scary things. I have gained some confidence since I came to Minnesota, but I have so much more to gain.
At the Puppy Mill, I lived in a cage all my life up to now. I think that is the reason I'm not too keen on crates. I will go in a crate if needed, (car rides) but I’d rather not sleep in one. Please note, to ensure my coat stays mat free, I will need a groom every 6-8 weeks.
