Sanford is an adorable Australian Shepherd mix who loves his people. He is full of energy and wants all your attention until he’s tired out. He is super smart and in a short time has learned to sit and wait for food, treats and has learn door manners. He is a morning dog with zoomies first thing when he wakes up! He sleeps well in a kennel, on the couch, on the floor of your room and/or would love to share your bed if you have room for him.  

Sanford loves to play with other dogs and would do best in a home with a fenced in yard. His recall skills are excellent. We can bring him in the front of our home or to baseball fields without a leash and he will bolt across the field to get to you. We are convinced he thinks he’s human, because he loves to give “hugs”. 

Sanford, like other dogs of his breed, has a prey drive and would do well learning more leash manners. We are working on “watch me” but this one will take a bit of time especially when he’s excited.  His energy levels are best managed with short games of chase or fetch throughout the day. He can catch, but our favorite thing is watching him jump for a ball way too early.  He doesn’t really bark. He will ask to go outside with a whine.  He also loves to play in the water from the hose. 

This boy is a true gem and anyone who adopts he is going to be so lucky!

**Note on breed and age determination: 

Breed and age are often determined on appearance, our own knowledge, veterinarian advice, and/or information from the sending shelters or previous owners.  Most of our adoptable dogs were previously stray dogs with little history, we can’t be 100% sure of a dog’s breed mix, and unless there is a specific date of birth listed, we can’t be 100% sure of a dog’s age. Additionally, our assessments of a dog's interactions with other dogs, cats, or children are based on OUR experiences. Your experience may differ.

ADOPTION FEE INCLUDES:

• Wellness check
• Spay/neuter (puppies adopted with required spay/neuter certificate)
• Age appropriate vaccines - rabies and distemper combo 
• Heartworm test if over 7 months of age
• Fecal test and/or deworming for parasites
• Microchip ​

~ Healing Hearts rescue will also provide dental procedures, bloodwork, surgeries, and/or any other additional vet work as needed while dogs are in our care.
