- Dax LOVES being a part of a pack and would love to have a buddy to pal around with. His interactions with dogs in general are easygoing - somewhat submissive if there is tension, otherwise curious and playful.
- He's amazingly good with cats. Dax mostly ignores them and is cautious without being fearful. We think he might even play with a willing cat.
- He rarely ever barks! I know, hard to believe with a bluetick-beagle. But it took almost 10 days and a little encouragement from a resident beagle to get any sound out of him at all! Even then, it took a deer inside the same fenced yard with him to hear his voice a second time.
- He's a world-class snuggler. This guy is REALLY loving affection and is a fantastic nap buddy.
- Dax gives every person a chance and takes the time to form his own opinions about people he's meeting for the first time. So far he seems to find the good in every person he meets.
- He's a smart guy who is eager to please. Having spent his first days expelling literal trash from his body and trying to get a little meat on his ribs, it was no surprise that Dax is incredibly excited around food. Although he never displayed food guarding behaviors, he's done a lot of jumping and getting into his foster brothers' business. Now that he feels more confident about the security of his food, he is learning to try to contain that excitement in a beautiful, if wiggly, sit. He's also used this opportunity to show us his most amazing "circus noodlehound" trick: when he's having a hard time containing his excitement, but knows he's not supposed to jump on you, Dax will literally walk/hop around in front of you on his hind feet!
- He's not phased by our winter weather. At all. This skinny little guy didn't even need a coat until subzero temps hit, and he had no idea why we thought he should wear Pawz outside. We've been taking him on twice a day walks and he's content with whatever distance we decide to go. He's truly down for anything.
Before we run out of space, we should mention that Dax wouldn't be a great fit for younger children. He's still learning his manners around food and would absolutely steal food from smaller people. He also has a determination to go through any door that is opening and might end up out in the world if kids are coming and going. Dax doesn't seem to be looking for an escape though - it's just a combination of not wanting to be left behind and having genuine curiosity about everything. He is a hound, after all!
Dax is a beautiful little guy with big paws and an even bigger heart. Choose this guy, and thank us later.
