Mako is a handsome dog filled with the spirit of adventure. He is always up for a hike, game of fetch, or trip to the dog park. He is very social and loves interacting with other dogs and people. At a year and a half, Mako still has some puppy energy and does best when he has regular opportunities for rigorous exercise. I usually get him a short walk in the morning and evening and then a trip to the dog park, off leash hike, or game of fetch mid-day. He loves to snooze or watch squirrels out the window in between walks. He does well in his crate when we're not home (although we rarely leave him alone for more than 4 or 5 hours). He goes to doggy daycare once a week and does well there. He will occasionally steal a shoe or two but mostly sticks to chewing his bones. He uses a no pull harness when on leash walks but without the harness he tends to pull (someone else could probably do a better job of training him on this if they really worked on it). When he is off leash at the dog park or on hiking trails, he is has an independent spirit and is comfortable going a distance away to chase a squirrel or romp with another dog. However, once I blow a dog whistle, he comes high tailing it back at full speed. I've found that the dog whistle works best for the two of us as his signal for recall. That way he can have some independence but still know to check in when he hears the whistle.
Mako has been in a loving home for the last 14 months where he has shared many an adventure with a family who loves him dearly. Unfortunately, due to a child's dog allergies the family is needing to find a new loving home for him. Mako would thrive in a home with a fenced in yard and another four-legged friend to play with or as a single dog who is afforded lots of opportunities to run, play, and be social with other dogs.

Breed and age are often determined on appearance, our own knowledge, veterinarian advice, and/or information from the sending shelters or previous owners. Most of our adoptable dogs were previously stray dogs with little history, we can’t be 100% sure of a dog’s breed mix, and unless there is a specific date of birth listed, we can’t be 100% sure of a dog’s age. Additionally, our assessments of a dog's interactions with other dogs, cats, or children are based on OUR experiences. Your experience may differ.
